Came here (China) not knowing what to expect and definitely didn’t expect to meet other humans that I would one day consider family. September to October spent together sat on the steps in front of our dorm, the collection of empty beer cans expanded as we discovered each-others preferences. Our laughs radiated, occasionally receiving loud hushes from the Chinese students living opposite, and so under the trees we sat at the end of our days, wearing our sliders and shower slippers, discovering each-others worlds.

We called ourselves “The Steps” thanks to those steps, we welcomed the colder months away from the steps and inside each-others rooms, blankets were spread on the floor to make room for our movie nights, playing cards were bought and phones were tucked away. Hello January and goodbye incredible humans, I write about them now hoping you too can learn to cherish every moment with each human that crosses your path.
